Frank Sun is a filmmaker, entrepreneur, and accidental pro wrestling media mogul. As a late ’90s immigrant, Frank stumbled upon his first American Dream by combining his two greatest loves: pro wrestling and the internet. This fusion resulted in a wrestling publication that still runs today, racking up over five million page views a month—mostly from Frank refreshing the page (kidding, sort of).
Frank kayfabed his way into video production as a young man, running a college TV station at UNC-Chapel Hill where he oversaw a dozen shows on the local access channel and created his own sketch comedy series, proving that sometimes, persistence (and control of the programming schedule) really does pay off.
His second American Dream came when he landed a job as a story producer on CBS’s Survivor, which begin his globe-trotting adventures and wrangling contestants on remote islands. Reality TV took him to wild places like TLC’s John and Kate Plus 8 and 19 Kids and Counting—both of which imploded after Frank had long abandoned ship in pursuit of his third American Dream: filmmaking.
Currently based in NYC, Frank co-founded a production company where he learned the hard way that commercial production is equal parts art, grit, and building a ship as you sail. After building enough scar tissue banging his head against exposed brick walls, he caught the attention of bigger production companies and begin directing with clients like Peloton, Norwegian Airlines, Rakuten, NYFW, Ralph Lauren, Lexus, and Universal Records.
He also worked as Creative Producer at agencies like Red Antler, MediaMonks, Joan Creative, and CVLT Studios sharpened his chops in the world of high-end commercial production, both through management and creativity.
Eventually, Frank realized he’d drifted a liittttlee too far from his roots. So, like any pro wrestler looking to pivot, he started a face turn, easing back into cinematography and directing. Lately, he’s been developing short and feature films, while keeping his entrepreneurial spirit alive through his wrestling publication, a venture fund, and his production company.
Frank is currently pushing his way toward developing his first feature film, shooting and directing commercials, all while volunteering as a Wikipedia photographer, chef, and spinning the occasional DJ sets.
